What does a bed rug from Illinois, and a sampler from Ohio, and a silk embroidered picture from Oregon have in common? All three have their roots in the rich artistic heritage of New London County women. Schoelewer, author of Connecticut Needlework: Women, Art, Family, uses family history to tease out “hidden ties” that connect quite different types of needlework, stretching from the 17^th century into the 19^th. Together, needlework and family history lead us to women’s stories that have long gone unnoticed—often hidden in plain sight—waiting to be discovered.
