Pop Art and Popcorn Art: Five Films Tied to the “Fun and Games? Leo Jensen’s Pop Art" Exhibition

$85 (Members 10% discount)

Dr. Mark J. Schenker, formerly of Yale College and a frequent presenter of literature, film, and cultural programs at FloGris, returns to extend his “How to Read a Film” approach to five films that have connections to elements of one kind or another to Jensen’s life and work. Those elements include the rodeo, the circus, the Great Depression, and an inventiveness that embraced both the concreteness of artifacts and the airiness of the imagination. The directors of these films—Clint Eastwood, Charlie Chaplain, Carol Reed, Joel & Ethan Coen, and Tim Burton—are leading filmmakers from the US and the UK, the two countries in which Pop Art flourished in the 1950s and 1960s.
